| Crisis Leadership: Or Leaders in Crisis |
|
|
The primary focus of The Third Zone as a company centers on leadership - developing a foundation of basic skills that work, enhancing the skills that one has in order to be even more effective and building teams of highly impacting leaders so that their companies can achieve the most lofty of visions and goals without having to settle for less.
Whereas we witness and experience some powerful results in our client organizations working within their 'normal' or 'usual' business environments we also experience some of these same client companies being thrown into a state of upheaval due to various industry or economic conditions when suddenly the rules of the games need to change and fast! Suddenly, effective leaders realize the need to bring new elements to the forefront of their leadership efforts as a way of preserving the focus they need to have and the talent that is so important in order to weather the passing storm. When it passes, and it will, above all organizational leaders want to return to a state of 'normal' business with people and focus intact.
Crisis conditions create several situations that challenge and charge the effective leader with displaying strong skills.

Tell versus Ask
A Coach/Leader Conundrum
Have you have had situations where you quickly noticed an employee's mistake and were just as quick to point out the error and the solution for fixing it?
Or better yet, in your performance development discussions with individual staff members have you offered your solutions for how the employee in question might improve their performance or skills?
In this version of "Tips From The Trenches", we will explore how coach/leaders may use questions as a development tool to inform their direct reports, versus the oft used method of telling.
For illustrative purposes, let's begin our discussion with a simple continuum.
