 “No limits … just edges”

You’ve had it … you refuse to spend any more time trying to survive the drastically changed economy … you’re not waiting anymore for ‘yesterday’s’ robust days to return because you really get that they won’t … that’s IT!.

You’re taking over … you’re taking it back … you’re moving forward from the driver’s seat of your business.

Question:

  • Where are you driving to?
  • Accompanying your determination to regain control and put the company’s future back in the hands of your team of leaders do you know where you’re going?
  • Have you really broken the old mold apart – the one that’s in your head – and put it back together around today’s realities and what you can dare to dream and then build?
  • What happens when you see ‘no limits … only edges’?  And what are the challenges, thrills and successes that await you with each edge you go over and push beyond?
  • How do you do that?

When faced with the need or desire to alter or create something related to our business it is natural to bring the leadership team together and decide on what needs to happen and how to go about it.  What we often create is the ‘to do’ list around the plan that will take us from where we are to where we envision going.  And whereas there is nothing wrong with the approach in terms of making progress, it can and does create limits.  What it does is deprive us of a potential of climbing higher and wider because we don’t create the opportunity to dream of what’s possible … really possible … before designing the ‘to do’ list of actions.

Executive coachingThe value and benefit of entering ‘reality’ through the ‘dream’ door is that you get to envision a limitless range of possibilities.  And given that in dreamland there is no right or wrong this is the place that your creative juices, individually and collectively, can truly flow.  What we defy is the sense of limits and at most, encounter only edges that we need and get to push beyond. Today, emerging from perhaps the biggest business challenge we have ever faced, taking a little extra time to explore the full range of potential just makes good business sense!

Playing in dreamland may sound easy … and fun … and don’t be fooled.  It takes an effort by all to stay in this place and resist the tendency to begin ‘doing’ or ‘planning’ around any one idea.  It takes the determination of all to remain in the land of possibilities and the payoff is huge.  Regardless of how long you stay and no matter how many ‘possibilities’ you put forth, once you move on to the land of today’s reality, the ‘to do’ list you create will have been influenced by the dreaming you allowed yourselves to do.  The look of where you’re going is bound to be completely different.  The excitement and enthusiasm is at a significantly higher level and your organization will have opened up the very ‘real’ possibility of climbing to a higher point on the mountain of achievement and success.

We have taken many organizations via their leadership through dreamland on the way to creating their plan for the future.  The results are nothing short of invigorating, energizing and monumental!  Can we help you?  Contact us to explore how taking the path from dreaming of what’s possible to reality can work for your organization.

So once our organization decides to do this how long of a process is it to get our our people to change and think more creatively?

Seems the economy is shaking out and you are right that it's time to start thinking about bigger things than just survival. How do we start the process of getting into creative mode again?

Pollock abptly describes the current field on which businesses play, but I think that edge would be better described as threshhold. It is certain that we have emerged from the recession. Even the most skeptical economists have said so. But will this be the usual recovery. Some say no, because we still have many usuals upsidedown and Pollock is still there. So, cross the threshhold with new vigor and look for opportunities in the scramble while retaining the defenses honed in the recession.
